AquaInTech Inc., (AQUAculture/INformation/TECHnology) was founded in 1996 by Dr. Stephen G. Newman, a marine microbiologist specializing in aquatic animal health issues. Proactive management of health of aquatic animals using sustainable science based technologies is the focus of our business. Our goal is to teach aquaculturists how to prevent problems and to lessen the impact when they occur and that proactive health management is better than reactive disease management.
Our company features a number of Products for aquaculturists and is still a work in progress. We also offerconsultation services and technical audits (including biosecurity, operational, troubleshooting, problem solving, etc.) to assist clients in increasing productivity.
Dr. Newman's PhD work discovered that a plasmid in a pathogenic Vibrio anguillarum strain that produces massive disease outbreaks in farmed salmonids was responsible for virulence. This led to the discovery that the plasmid encoded for a membrane protein that allowed the bacteria to take iron away from the host. It is now widely recognized that iron is a critical growth factor for pathogenic vibrios affecting many cultured species.
He has extensive experience with both fish and shrimp; including catfish, trout, salmon, barramundi, cobia, grouper, tilapia, striped bass, tiger shrimp (P. monodon), white shrimp ( P. vannamei ) and blue shrimp (P. stylirostris ) and others.
